Sadly the island is gone. So the search is on for a new cottage with access to Georgian Bay.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, camping.<\/p>\n
Its been years (decades) since I was camping, don’t even have much of my original gear. \u00a0Old Coleman cook stove, that’s about it. \u00a0Been collecting stuff for the last month or so to use, tent, pots, dishes, the basics. \u00a0Wanted to do a dry run for camping at Oastler Provincial Park, not to far from where most of my cottaging gear is stored. \u00a0That way if something was missing, I could just go pick it up. \u00a0Turns out your basic camp site, is a wee bit more expensive than I remember. \u00a0Costly and camping goes against all common sense. Rates for a patch of ground, with picnic bench, water (boil first) near by, and indeterminate septic facilities; $37.25 per night. Interestingly you can, for $46.50 per night get a full hookup for a RV.<\/p>\n
The Massassauga Provincial Park, is very near where the cottage was. \u00a0The park is classified as a “back country”, a little more economical, $11.25 per night. I’ve chose a site which is accessible via power boat. Not being lazy about this, still have the boat, and the slip at the marina. I’ll be doing a variation on camping out of the back of my car, er boat. \u00a0If everything goes according to plan, kayaking as well.<\/p>\n
