This is a gem of an island near where our family property was. \u00a0Within easy paddling distance, with plenty of sheltered landing areas. \u00a0It is privately owned, so discretion is advised. \u00a0Certainly no camping would be tolerated.<\/p>\n
There are two buildings on the approximately 16 acre island. \u00a0One of them is an original building. \u00a0The base of the flag pole has an inscription from the late 1920’s. \u00a0The story goes that a well-to-do doctor from Pittsburgh owned it originally. \u00a0The family would come up via train and then steamer for the summer. \u00a0Bringing all their staff, food, and livestock\u00a0 for the summer with them. \u00a0I understand, at one point there was a large boat house, now gone, burned down. \u00a0A chicken house, gone. \u00a0A cabin for a grounds keeper. \u00a0The last time I was there the remnants were still standing. \u00a0The main building had a unique feature by today’s standards, a separate staircase for the house keeping staff to use.<\/p>\n
